I am a London-based researcher and writer, focusing on the intersection of biology, policy and culture. I write for publications including The Critic, UnHerd, New Statesman, The Spectator, The Telegraph, CapX, and Works in Progress – on a range of topics over the years such as statistics, technology, academic freedom, and animal welfare. I have a particular interest in the biology of sex differences, and their implications for policy debates. You can read selected works in the "writing" section of this website.
Since November 2023 I have been Research Manager at the think tank Civitas. In this role I oversee and review research on a range of policy areas; however, my personal specialism is family policy. I am passionate about building a culture that recognises the importance of domestic work and supports the needs of women, parents and families.
Before this, I completed a PhD in zoology at the University of Oxford, which was on the science of sexual selection and its applications in commercial chicken breeding.
I am also running End The Backlog, the campaign to end the backlog in driving test bookings in the UK; and am co-chair of the Women in Think Tanks Forum, an advisory group member for the charity Sex Matters, and a fellow at Civic Future.
Finally, please do drop me a line on anything at all, using the contact form on this site – I would love to hear from you! I also welcome connections via Twitter, where I can be found under @pastasnack_e.
