Since November 2023 I have been Research Manager at Civitas: the Institue for the Study of Civil Society. In this role I oversee and review research on a range of policy areas; however, my personal specialism is family policy. I am passionate about building a culture that recognises the importance of domestic work and supports the needs of women, parents and families.
In 2023 I completed a PhD in zoology at the University of Oxford, which was on the science of sexual selection and its applications in commercial chicken breeding. During my studies I began working as a freelance writer, focusing on the intersection of biology, policy and culture.
I write for publications including The Critic, UnHerd, New Statesman, The Specator, The Telegraph, CapX, and Works in Progress – recently on family policy, but also on many other topics over the years, including animal welfare, academic freedom, statistics and technology. I have a particular interest in the biology of sex differences, and their implications for policy debates. You can read selected works in the "writing" section of this website.
Finally, please do drop me a line on anything at all, using the contact form on this site – I would love to hear from you! I also welcome connections via Twitter, where I can be found under @pastasnack_e.
